VANCOUVER -- Roberto Luongo made 19 saves for his third shutout of the season and the 65th of his career Friday as the Vancouver Canucks defeated the Edmonton Oilers 4-0 for their sixth straight victory. After losing a shutout bid in the dying seconds of Sundays win over the Colorado Avalanche, Luongo would not be denied against the punchless Oilers and is now just one back of Patrick Roy for 14th on the all-time list. Daniel Sedin, Zack Kassian, Chris Higgins and Dale Weise scored for Vancouver (19-10-5), which improved to 4-0-0 on its current five-game homestand. Jason Garrison added three assists, while Ryan Kesler chipped in with two of his own. Devan Dubnyk made 36 saves for Edmonton (11-20-3), which has lost two straight. The Canucks dont have long to celebrate with the Boston Bruins set to play at Rogers Arena on Saturday night for the first time since their victory in Game 7 of the 2011 Stanley Cup final. Leading 1-0 after the second period, Vancouver doubled its lead at 2:26 of the third when Kassian deflected a shot from David Booth past Dubnyk for his sixth goal of the season and first point in nine games. Higgins then stretched the lead to three at 6:07 when he took a feed from Ryan Kesler and beat Dubnyk with a lightning-quick release for his ninth of the campaign. Higgins now has two goals and five assists during his four-game point streak. Luongo made a big glove stop on Oilers defenceman Justin Schultz midway through the period before Weise had a chance to make it 4-0, only to see his shot hit the post. Luongo then shot out his left pad on Edmonton forward Ryan Jones to preserve the shutout with under six minutes remaining. Weise finally found the mark on the power play with 34.8 seconds left on the clock for his third of the season. After a scoreless first that saw the Canucks carry the play, Vancouver came out strong again in the second and took the lead on a 4-on-3 power play midway through the period. Implored by Canucks head coach John Tortorella this week to shoot more, Sedin snapped a five-game goalless drought with his 11th of the season when his shot from the point went in off Oilers defenceman Nick Schultz at 8:41. Higgins had just hit the post behind Dubnyk moments earlier, with Edmontons Mark Arcobello going off for slashing to give Vancouver the man advantage. The goal energized the Oilers, who were playing their second game in as many nights, with Luongo robbing David Perron with his glove a few minutes later. Weise and Kesler then found themselves in alone on Dubnyk on a 2-on-0, but the Oilers goalie stopped Kesler. Vancouver beat Edmonton 6-2 at Rogers Arena on Oct. 5 and came out firing in the first period on Friday. The Canucks hemmed the Oilers in their own zone off the opening faceoff and led 6-0 on the shot clock when Edmontons Ryan Nugent-Hopkins finally directed his teams first effort at Luongo with just under seven minutes gone. Dubnyk, who was pulled after giving up three goals in Thursdays 4-2 home loss to Boston, had to be sharp a few moments later with big stops on Kassian and Jannik Hansen. Not to be outdone, Luongo kept out Edmontons best chance of the period with a sprawling stick save off Ales Hemsky on a 2-on-1. The Oilers had the only power play of the period when Canucks captain Henrik Sedin was whistled for goaltender interference with under four minutes to go, but Vancouvers No. 1-ranked penalty killing unit had the best chance when Dubnyk just got a piece of Keslers effort. Louis Blues were workmanlike, methodical and -- most of all -- effective on Monday night.MINNEAPOLIS - That sprained left ankle was not about to spoil Teddy Bridgewaters first career start for the Minnesota Vikings.Hes going to get an MRI, coach Mike Zimmer said, deadpanning, but I told him hes fine.Bridgewater didnt finish what he started, but he was good enough that his departure didnt matter. The rookie passed for 317 yards and a key 2-point conversion, and the Vikings rode a resurgent running game to beat the Atlanta Falcons 41-28 on Sunday.I was confident in the play calling. I was confident in the guys. And I felt that they were still confident in me, said Bridgewater, who completed 19 of 30 passes with no turnovers and ran five times for 27 yards and a touchdown. His last carry came early in the fourth quarter with the Vikings trailing by a point. Bridgewaters left foot rolled when he tried to cut as he was taken down at the 1-yard line. Matt Asiata scored on fourth down, and Bridgewater stayed in to zip a crisp pass to Rhett Ellison for the 2-point conversion to push the lead to 35-28.The first-round draft pick limped off the field and was taken for X-rays, which were negative. After the Vikings defence forced the Falcons to punt for a second straight time, Christian Ponder took over at quarterback. Minnesota moved into position for a 55-yard field goal by Blair Walsh, who was 4 of 5 on Sunday. That put the Vikings up by 10, and Harrison Smith intercepted Matt Ryan on the next drive to seal the victory. Bridgewater was back on the sideline before the end of the game and in good spirits afterward. Zimmers half-joking mandate that Bridgewater be ready to play the next game aside, the Vikings have only three days before they go to Green Bay on Thursday night.Bridgewater, though, hasnt been fazed by much. Asked if he worried about the injury as he was driven away on the cart, he said, Not at all.Was there a point during the game when he settled down and became more comfortable?Actually, before the ball was even kicked off, a smiling Bridgewater replied.Hiis counterpart on the other side was impressed.dddddddddddde came out and played about as good as you could ask for, Ryan said. The Falcons lost three offensive linemen to injuries and wound up sticking tight end Levine Toilolo at right tackle in the fourth quarter. Ryan was 25 for 41 for 298 yards and three touchdowns, but the defence let him down. With pass protection a problem in recent weeks, Vikings offensive co-ordinator Norv Turner devised a plan with a heavy dose of quick drops for drag routes across the middle and screens to either side. The Vikings piled up 351 yards by halftime, a total higher than half of the teams in the league averaged over the first three weeks, and finished with 558 total yards. The Falcons had no sacks for the third time in four games. Were all in it together, win and lose, Ryan said. Different games are going to shake out in different ways. Sometimes one group is going to be asked to carry the load. Its a long year.Another Vikings rookie, Jerick McKinnon, rushed 18 times for 135 yards. Asiata had 20 carries for 78 yards and three touchdowns, and all of a sudden Adrian Peterson, on paid leave while the child-abuse charge against him is pending, was an afterthought.Bridgewater dived head-first into the end zone to finish a 13-yard touchdown run for the first score of his career and a 21-14 lead in the second quarter. They did basically whatever they wanted to in terms of controlling the line of scrimmage. That is very alarming, Falcons coach Mike Smith said.Bridgewater had this game in control, too.Hes always got the same demeanour. Hes just amazing to be around, this kid is, Zimmer said. Im proud hes on my team.NOTES: Jarius Wright led the Vikings with eight catches for 132 yards, both career highs. ... Along with G Justin Blalock (back), T Lamar Holmes (foot) and C Joe Hawley (knee), Falcons S William Moore (shoulder) was injured and didnt return.___AP NFL websites: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP_NFL ' ' '
